Soon, it’ll be Halloween again, which means it is time for beautifully ghoulish decorations.
Along with ghosts, monsters and spiders, carved pumpkins are a must.
The popular bright orange autumn adornments transform into spooky decorations with carved faces, protecting your home from evil spirits.
And now you can put pumpkins on your refrigerator, too! Homemade pumpkin magnets with cheerful, spooky and scary faces bring the Halloween spirit into your home.
This year, I used glass pebbles to make pumpkin magnets as Halloween decorations.
Find out how you can create great decorative magnets for the spookiest holiday of the year in just a few simple steps.
With their bright orange colour, these pumpkin magnets will immediately catch the eye of any cookie monster.
Materials needed
For the Halloween pumpkin magnets, you will need the following craft materials:- Transparent glass pebbles (glass nuggets or glass stones)
- Neodymium disc magnets, e.g. type S-12-01-N or S-12-02-N
- Small scissors
- Strong adhesive, such as UHU MAX REPAIR
- Thin pipe cleaners in green, brown or black
- Pumpkin skin images printed on paper and grimaces
Create the pumpkin faces
To make my homemade Halloween glass magnets resemble pumpkins, they need an orange background. To achieve an authentic pumpkin-textured look, I printed out sections of pumpkin images on thick paper. As an alternative, I also used orange paper. Then I drew the spooky faces with a thin black felt-tip pen. I found inspiration for the pumpkin faces in many Halloween decorations.Important:
When drawing, bear in mind that the glass pebbles visually enlarge the motifs.
To prevent the design from being cut off or appearing overly large, don’t make the faces too big.
Test it by placing the glass stones over the face before glueing them on.
Glue on the glass pebbles and cut out
Next, I glued the glass pebbles onto the pumpkin faces. To do this, I put a drop of craft glue on the glass stone and pressed it onto the drawn face. This spread the glue evenly over the glass stone. I repeated this for all the faces and left them to dry overnight. The next day, I cut the pumpkins out flush with the edge of the glass stone using small scissors.
The pumpkin magnets already look scarily beautiful!
Attach a stem to the pumpkin
What would a pumpkin be without its stem? The stems of my pumpkin magnets are made from thin green pipe cleaners. I cut the chenille wire into small pieces and glued them to the glass nuggets. To prevent all the pumpkin magnets from looking identical, I folded some of the pipe cleaners to create thicker stems. I also used brown and black pipe cleaners in addition to green ones.I carefully placed the glass nuggets on a sheet of paper to dry.
Although some of the stems stuck slightly to the paper, they were easy to remove.
Attach the magnets
As a final step, I glued a neodymium disc magnet to the back of the glass pebbles. I applied a drop of magnet glue to the back of the glass stone and carefully pressed the magnet evenly onto the surface. The next day, the Halloween magnets were dry and ready to hold my notes and scare my family at the fridge.Note from the supermagnete team:
Be careful not to use too much glue to prevent it from oozing out underneath the magnet.
Otherwise, valuable adhesive force will be lost.
Set the decorative magnets aside to dry, leaving enough space between them so they don't attract each other.
Halloween magnets with other motifs
In addition to pumpkin magnets, you can also use glass pebbles to create ghost magnets or creepy spiders for Halloween. There are no limits to your creativity. I made a few ghost magnets to keep my pumpkin magnets company. To make those, I used a black felt-tip pen to draw scary faces on thick white paper.More craft ideas for the spookiest holiday of the year
